What is a Sneak Attack?
It's a way to support independant artisans who are trying to sell their wares online. Two days a week at an appointed time, an Etsy shop with few or no sales is announced on this site. As many people as possible then buy items from that shop, resulting in a frenzy of surprise business to the unsuspecting shop! To the upper right is the current Sneak Attack schedule. To participate, show up on this site at or soon after the time of the next attack and you'll see the chosen shop name in the box above. Then go to that shop and purchase an item, making sure to include the words "Sneak Attack" in the "message to seller". It's also fun to tune into the current thread on Etsy to talk about it with other "attackers".
The Handmade Movement Blog
October 14th: The wonderful world of Sneak Attacks
Usually, I write about the sponsor for our sneak attack – today I’m the sponsor, and if you have been following this blog, you have already met me
When you are a new shop on Etsy, and don’t know very many people in the community – you browse through the forums, find people on twitter that talk about Etsy, and just try to wrap your mind around all of the information available. It can be very confusing and overwhelming. Hint: being a veteran shop owner – there’s still a lot of information that comes your way, that results in overload.
My sneaky friends and I try to help new shops whenever we can. Twice a week, we hold what we call Sneak Attacks – picking 2 or 3 new shops, to introduce them to the Etsy community and help them get a jump start in their business.
Many of our ‘victims’ have come back and joined the fun, and have become sponsors as well!
We don’t have a team, but we are a bunch of fun people, who enjoy chatting and having fun. If you want to find out more, just come on over to our Sneak Attack thread today, and see what it’s all about!
September 30th: Become a Sponsor
Usually, I talk about who our sponsor is for the Sneak Attack! And to let you in on a little secret, it’s Me! Or really my alter ego. I usually sponsor a sneak attack as Handmade By Sandi. But today, I’ll be sponsoring as Sandi’s Stash. My shop where I try to clear out my stash cabinet, and sell my fabric, pattern books and more!
Right now, I want to talk about becoming a sponsor. When I first started writing about our sponsors, I mentioned Being a sponsor is not about self promotion. It’s about providing a way for a new Etsy shop to have their items noticed, hearted, and perhaps find their way into some one’s home.
And that is still true.
Do you remember your first sale on Etsy? How excited you were when you got that email that said you had a sale, and how warm and fuzzy you felt, that someone saw something in your shop that they just had to have.
Etsy is a large community that spans the globe and new shops are appearing daily. Of course buyers span the globe as well. And it’s a nice feeling to know that you have helped a brand new shop get seen by a lot of those buyers. We want those new shops to have that warm and fuzzy feeling too!
If you have ever chatted with us on one of our Sneak Attack threads, you know how much fun we have. And our sponsors have a lot of fun as well, deciding which of the many new shops they see, that they would like to help.
The first few times I sponsored a sneak attack, I made sure that I had a co-sponsor. We have a number of sneaky friends who have been sponsors lots of times, and all you have to do is ask – one of us will be glad to work along side you to help that Etsy shop get a good start!
What do you need to know about sponsoring a Sneak Attack?
The first requirement is, a sponsor needs to have been active (posting, not buying) in the Sneak Attack threads for several weeks before they are given a date to sponsor an attack, that gives them time to figure out how it is done and for the Sneakers to get to know them
After this, if the person still wants to sponsor an attack, they are sent an instruction sheet on how to pick shops, and what the requirements are for a shop to be eligible for an attack.
They will be sent all the instructions on what has to be done to have a successful attack.
If you feel like you would like to sponsor an attack, please convo http://www.etsy.com/shop/laruefashions, and she will be more than happy to help.
In the meantime, come chat with us in our Sneak Attack thread for today. And our attack happens at 4pm Etsy time!
September 25th: Something New for Baby or You from Smart sAss Baby on Etsy
Bridget Bauer is going to make some lucky winner’s day on October 7th. Bridget is the proud owner of Smart sAss Baby on Etsy, where she designs ‘Attitude Tee’s for Kids with Attitude’. If you are that lucky winner you get your choice of Tee from Bridget’s Etsy shop. Pick out one for you in an adult size or one for your little one in a kid’s size.

Have a little fun or advertise your Etsy Shop on your Tee when you do a craft show!

Don’t want a Tee? There are other unique and fun designs to entice you.
Bridget began playing around with creating Attitude T’s when she had her son. ‘Boy’s clothes are just not as much fun as girls and I wanted a way to make his wardrobe a little more reflective of his personality and so Smart sAss Baby was born.’ Says Bridget in her Etsy Profile. Now we all can benefit from Bridget’s designs.
I know you want to run right off and check out Smart sAss Baby but you will want to register for the Handmade Giveaway before you go. Then browse through all of Bridget’s wonderfully unique designs and pick out your favorite. That special Tee could be yours if you win the drawing on October 7th. The winner will be announced at 6:00pm in the Sneak Attack Forum Thread but you will receive an email if you have won. Now off to register and Good Luck!
August 26th: Our Handmade Movement Shop & LaRue Fashions
Today’s Sneak Attack is sponsored by LaRue from LaRue Fashions and the Handmade Movement Shop!
LaRue is our coordinator for the Sneak Attacks, approves the ‘victims’, and maintains the Sponsors list for upcoming Sneak Attacks! Lots of work and she does a super job!
According to LaRue: When I was MUCH younger, my grandmother taught me how to crochet. I put it away for years. It is something that I can work on in the living room with my daughter
And boy does LaRue do a terrific job with her crochet too! Like this scarf…

Our Handmade Movement Shop is a collaborative effort! The items that are donated come from other Etsy shop owners who support our efforts in paying it forward by ‘attacking’ new Etsy shops. The proceeds from sales will go toward promoting and organizing Sneak Attacks and maintaining this blog!
There are a number of delightful items to choose from, including this Suncatcher…

Purchase something from our shop and help support the Sneak Attacks!!
Our attack will be happening at 6pm today – Etsy Time – there will be 4 ‘victims’ so you are bound to find something you will love! Hope to see you there. In the meantime, come chat with us in the Sneak Attack Thread.
July 29th: Meet Engel
All of our Sneaker friends love to sponsor a sneak attack – it’s so much fun. It also gives us a warm feeling knowing that we are helping other Etsy shops get a good start!
Our sponsor today is Linda, better known as Engel from Engelfelt. Linda has been a sponsor lots of times!
Until this summer, Linda was a full-time high school language teacher, and had been for 3 decades. She also ran an exchange program at her high school and took students to Europe every other summer.
Now retired, Linda is helping to interview for her replacement! According to Linda prior to retiring: Raising a family and working full-time is definitely not easy, but you just do it, and have very little time for yourself
Now Linda will have all the time she needs or wants to work on her crafts! Like this adorable child’s hat that she has crocheted!

Well, Linda, I have to tell you, when I retired, I thought the same thing – plenty of time to get everything done – yeah! NOT.
How can you work full time, and get all the things done you need to, yet when you retire – there’s never enough time? If someone can figure that out for us – please let us know!
Be sure to check out Linda’s shop for more delightful crafts! Then come chat with us in the Sneak Attack Thread! We are a fun bunch!
July 22nd: Meet Shell
Judy, better known as Shell, is sponsoring our Sneak Attack today at 4pm Etsy time.
The name of her shop is Just For The Shell Of It and when you visit her shop, you will see shells everywhere.
When asked why that name, Judy said Have always loved the ocean, the beach, and shells! Been collecting shells for 40 years. Decided to try making some craft items with them and incorporate some into wedding accessories.
Looking at her treasure boxes in her shop, you will notice she has used shells all over the boxes – on the top, sides or as feet! They make wonderful gifts!
Be sure to visit Judy’s shop and then come on over and chat with us today in our Sneak Attack thread!
